My name is Julian Hector, and I’m a product designer, storyteller, and illustrator of children’s books. I was born in Los Angeles, raised in Driftwood, Tx by biologist and mathematician parents, and studied illustration at Parsons School of Design in New York City.
Growing up, if I wasn’t banding cricket frogs for ecological field research with my parents, or out catching ducks with my dad and his peregrine falcon, I was usually at home drawing for all hours of the day. Later in life, many of these animals would make it into my children’s books.
With a research focus, I love using creativity to solve problems, and I love that product design keeps me at the intersection of art, history, science, and technology. Currently, I live in Austin Texas with my greyhound, Vespa.
